Bird Sightings

Black Phoebe's Nest

This is a record of the kinds of birds we see throughout the year. At some point in the future I would like to have bird sightings by month or even actual day and then be able to compare those from year to year.

For the past two years (2013, 2014) we have had Cowbirds arrive at our feeder in April. The first year I took the feeder down right away because I did not want the Cowbirds parasitizing nests of birds here on our farm. This spring after 2 Cowbirds arrived I left the feeder up for another month and sure enough, we soon had 4 Cowbirds at the feeder. We took the feeder down so as not to encourage these birds to stay here. We have provided water all summer, but no food in the feeder. Once fall comes we will put the feeder out again.

Today, October 2nd, 2014, we added birdseed to the feeder after a few months with no feed. The first few birds sighted collecting food were:  House Finch, Nuthatch, Titmouse.
